TLM SHERRI LYNN
h
We bought Sherri Lynn in the fall of 2004, she was 22 years old at the time. We thought we were buying a quiet old mare for our family to gain some riding experience on, but we did not get quite what we expected!! Sherri is well broke, but she is not for the faint of heart. She loves to go. Her favorite is trail riding and she is not happy unless she is leading the way. Recently we have been taking our young stock out and leaving her at home, she stands at the gate begging to come with us. She has been great for the whole family.
Sherri is now retired completely from the horse show world, just as she thought she was before we bought her. That environment is just too stressful for her and makes her terribly unhappy.
Sherri is sound all summer, but in the winter, when it gets really cold, I notice that she gets a little stiff in the hocks. Due to Sherri's age it is becoming more and more difficult to keep weight on her. We feed her seperately from the other horses so she doesn't have to compete for her groceries. The summer of 2007 We started putting Glucosimine in her feed. Two months later... I take her feed tub out to her and she cantered into my path, so I just ducked in behind her. This old gal cantered a perfect pirouette right in front of me to cut me off again... stiff in the hocks? I think not!!
This is the only horse on the place that I put up with a LITTLE insubordination. Any other horse would have gotten clobbered with the feed tub if they didn't respect my space. But my 'Sher-bear' and I have an understanding. She can be a grouchy old girl with the other horses, but when I am around, she better keep her ears forward. When I speak to her, it's like she has a complete understanding of what I am saying. I can tell her to meet me at the gate and she goes to the gate; I can say 'Sherri NO', and she stops what she is doing half way across the paddock; I call all the horses names before I halter them, she comes running when I call her name; so she gets a little spoiled...she is old enough to have earned it.
