MIA-MAR CHALICE
Pictures are taken in September a week before weaning.
This pretty, bay girl arrived on Friday, May 6. I got home to find her and her dam in the far corner of the boodmare pen. Her maiden dam gave no indication that she was soon to foal so she was still out in general population with the other mares and foals. When I saw Fancy had foaled, I took no hesitation in moving them to a more secure location where this maiden mare could bond in peace. Fancy is a good mother and was doing her best to protect her foal, but she is at the bottom of the pecking order and the others just didn't want to leave her alone. They spent a couple of days by themselves then I turned them back out with the others. Chalice is happily checking out her new enviroment and her dam is following and proudly showing off! It won't be long before Chalice is playing with Zildjian, Tama and Sabian.
Keeping in tune with the drum theme this year, this filly has a drum name too. Her name is Chalice. Chalice is a style of drum otherwise known as a goblet drum. This style of drum you hold between your legs to play.
This girl, like the other 'Robert' foals is very friendly and bold. This is a tall, leggy filly with a gorgeous face. Foal pangare is very common in brown and bay foals, but the pangare markings on this girl are extreme. She is snow white underneath. It is very cool. I will be sorry to see her foal coat turn to her mature coat and this pangare effect dissapear. I will enjoy this coloring while she has it, after all, some things are just not meant to last. As you can see by her photos, the pangare is completely gone by 4 months old.
